ABOUT RACHEL
Since Rachel can remember, she has had a love for all things theatrical. Whether it was Disney movies or Broadway plays, there was something within the songs, the dialogue, and the storylines that always drew her in. In fact, when she was just nine years old, she began writing her own movies complete with costumes, choreography, dialogue and her own lighting crew, her dad! Rachel’s devotion to the quality of her projects compelled her to cast her brothers and friends, making them sign contracts promising they would complete the films and or plays.
“I have always had a love for artistry,” says Rachel. “I love to create. It’s a part of who I am. Even when I try to shut it off, ideas flood my mind and so I’ve stopped trying to ignore the dream inside my heart. I’ve accepted that this is a part of God’s plan for me… to be a creative person, especially in the Arts.”
That said it should come as no surprise that as a young adult, Rachel now has an impressive list of credentials in the field of her passion. This Cum Laude graduate with a Liberal Arts degree from Western Kentucky University is also classically trained in vocal performance, due to attending the renowned music school, Belmont University. She has a resumé that boasts of musical theatre productions like “F.A.M.E: The Musical” and “Ragtime,” where she played the leading black female, Sarah. Live and singing performances include: the 2004 Dove Awards (as a background vocalist for Smokey Robinson) and as an on-air host for “Word on the Street.” Her studio sessions and live work includes
A-list artists like David Foster, Donna Summer, Wynonna Judd, Michael Omartian, Ce Ce Winans, Tommy Sims, Keith Thomas, Stacie Orrico, Nicole C. Mullen, Smokey Norful, and Bryon Cage. She was also awarded a Dove Award for a duet with her parents, and spent four years singing background vocals and touring with dove award winner for female vocalist of the year, Natalie Grant. Ironically, Rachel’s musical talent has even afforded her the opportunity to be featured in two Disney film soundtracks: “Cinderella” (2005 DVD edition) as a co-arranger and background vocalist on “A Dream is a Wish” Featuring Raven Symone and Ashley Tisdale, and “Chicken Little” as background vocalist on the song “Stir it Up” Featuring Patti Labelle and Joss stone.
Humbly, Rachel takes it all in stride, honored that she has been blessed to make a living using her gifts of singing, songwriting, acting, dancing and even public speaking. Yes, Rachel has also spent the past (3) years as a praise and worship singer and a featured speaker on the Women of Faith Revolve Tour allowing her to touch over nine thousand girls every event. Rachel can add author to her list of credentials, thanks to her contribution to the “Inside Out: Our Stories, Our Faith in 40 Devotions” Revolve Tour devotional book. She is currently writing a book about her own personal story addressing some of the issues that are close to her heart.
Currently, Rachel’s mind is consumed with ways to share her message of hope, freedom, and honesty. Rachel got a taste of fulfilling her dream when she was cast as a slave in a movie about President Andrew Jackson’s life story (featured on PBS). She says, “in between filming at the Hermitage Plantation, I would take off my shoes and dig my feet into the soil my ancestors once trod, thanking God for my freedom and the opportunity to help tell the story of my forefathers fighting for their own.” She believes she is a communicator of the truth to all people, which is why she constantly, and passionately pursues ways to participate in films, projects, and any opportunities that allow her to promote the beauty of the truth.
